“When children suffer with cancer, it often isn’t only the physical aspect of their lives that is affected – treatment also takes its toll on their mental health and their education.

Providing additional statutory protection for children who are undergoing treatment for and recovering from cancer will release a huge amount of pressure on them, and will help provide some stability in their education, which so often can fall behind during treatment.

In the short term, we should also commission an independent review into the impact of cancer treatment on a child’s ability to learn, and amend the SEND code of practice to ensure more timely support.

I am proud to be the Parliamentary Convener for this campaign, and look forward to helping these children during what can only be described as an exceptionally stressful time in their childhood.”
